Cyclone is a device that can separate suspended particles in fluid and solids.
In this device, the liquid or solid begins to rotate using a spiral pattern in the upper part, which is larger, and flows to the lower and smaller part of the device. Suspended particles in the rotating flow have a lot of inertia and cannot follow the rotating flow, so they hit the lower wall of the cyclone, which is in the shape of a cone, and slide to its end, which is the place where coarse particles are collected.
The volume of the polluting gas and the geometry of the cyclone determine which particles of which size can be separated from the flow. Cyclones are usually used on a very large scale in oil refineries to separate oil from gas, as well as in factories and mines to remove dust from the air. It should be noted that the cyclone is usually used as a pre-separator to reduce the amount of gas with dust for the final filter (bag filter and electrofilter). Cyclones with high efficiency usually consume a lot of energy, and this means a high cost imposed on any organization, but cyclones with lower efficiency will always be more effective, if they are equipped with a complementary filtration system (bag filter and electrofilter).
